Meeting Times and Locations

The Pacifica Emergency Preparedness & Safety Commission meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm in the front conference room of the police station located at 2075 Coast Highway in Pacifica.

**The next 2 meetings on March 20, 2024 and April 17, 2024 will take place at the City Council Chambers 2212 Beach Blvd, Pacifica 


Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of the Emergency Preparedness & Safety Commission shall be to recommend and advise the City Council on City programs, activities, plans and other related actions that assist the City in preparing for possible future disasters.

The Commission consists of nine (9) members appointed by the City Council. The commission membership should, where possible, be representative of the City's neighborhood areas. In addition to the nine regular members, there shall be three (3) ex officio members who shall be representatives from the high school and elementary school districts, and from the American Red Cross.

The powers and duties of the Commission shall be advisory only and include

  • To assist in the preparation and review and make recommendations to Council on disaster preparedness plans;
  • To increase community awareness of the possibility of future disasters and the need for disaster preparedness;
  • To develop and distribute disaster preparedness information in the City;
  • To develop, implement and promote, with Council approval, disaster preparedness programs and activities in the City;
  • To promote and develop resources, volunteer and self-help groups to be utilized in the event of a local disaster;
  • To assist in the coordinating of disaster preparedness with other governmental agencies.

Additionally, the commission sits as the appellate body for appeals relating to abandoned/ inoperable vehicle abatement, vehicles parked 72 hours or more and appeals of staff decisions relating to traffic safety issues. The current commissioners' terms are set to expire every calendar year on October 31st.

SMC Alert Network
Pacifica provides its residents with the ability to participate in the county alert system known as SMC Alert. The program allows participates to receive automatic notifications to their computers, cell phones or any device capable of receiving email on such things as utility outages, road closures and weather warnings. Cal OES is responsible for the coordination of overall state agency response to disasters. Assuring the state's readiness to respond to, recover from all hazards and assisting local governments in their emergency preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation. caloes.ca.gov

Wildfire Preparedness
After considerable work by the Emergency Preparedness & Safety Commission to raise awareness about wildfire preparedness in Pacifica, this new webpage has been added to the City website. We have worked with North County Fire Authority to help bring several useful resources to one location.
