Pacifica’s Vital Services Measure Y

On June 27th, 2022, the Pacifica City Council unanimously placed the Pacifica Vital Services Measure Y on the November ballot to address vital services with locally controlled funding that cannot be taken by the State.

If enacted, Measure Y would provide additional revenue to maintain Pacifica’s vital local city services such as 911 fire, police, and emergency medical response times, keeping pollution and trash off local beaches, attracting and retaining local jobs and businesses, and maintaining storm drains to prevent flooding, among other needs.

Measure Y would establish a half-cent sales tax (transaction and use tax) generating locally controlled funding to address and maintain local vital services. The half-cent sales tax established by Measure Y would not apply to food purchased as groceries or to prescription drugs. Measure Y also requires that the City Council establish an independent citizen oversight committee and subject the funds to the City’s regular financial audits.
