Recruitment Process

We are pleased that you are interested in working for the City of Pacifica. Currently the city employs approximately 180 full-time employees. Full-time, part-time and seasonal positions are available. The City of Pacifica only accepts applications for current open positions.

The human resources department will contact applicants selected for interviews after the specified closing date. Upon receiving an application for an open position, an acknowledgment letter will be sent to you. Depending on the position, you may meet with one or more individuals in the hiring department, including the supervisor for the position. Some positions require you to meet with an interview panel (oral board).

The hiring process for police officers, firefighters and EMTs is unique. The city works with North County Fire Authority in recruitments for firefighter/paramedic positions and utilizes candidates from the FireHire organization. Most police officer recruitments are individuals who are currently in a POST academy program or those who have completed a POST academy. You may contact the human resources department directly if you have questions regarding openings in the police or fire departments.

Once the interviews are complete, the hiring manager will extend an offer to the most qualified candidate. If you are selected for employment, you will be required to present proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Some positions may also require a physical examination, for which the city will arrange and pay. The city, prior to any job offer, will complete a thorough background which includes reference checks, fingerprinting and, if driving, a DMV driving record for the past three years.

The human resources department will answer any additional questions you may have or will provide any special instructions that may be appropriate to a particular position. For a listing of positions available please, view our openings at www.calopps.org. Thank you for your interest in employment with the City of Pacifica.
