The Mid-Block Crosswalk Safety Improvement Project will improve nine crosswalks located around the City of Pacifica in the vicinity of four schools: Ingrid B Lacy Middle School, Ortega Elementary School, Vallemar Elementary School, and Terra Nova High School.

Improvements will include high visibility striping and signage, and painted bulbouts with delineators to reduce crossing distance, enhance visibility and reduce traffic speeds. Five of the nine crosswalks will also receive flashing, solar-powered, push-button activated rectangular rapd flashing beacons.

The planned work is consistent with the City’s 2020 Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan and Safe Routes To School Plan.

Improvements are planned at the following locations/intersections:

  1. Lerida Way between Poplar Ave and Terra Nova Blvd, including the intersection of Lerida Way and Terra Nova Blvd.
  2. Intersections of Palmetto Ave and Surf St, and Palmetto Ave and Shoreview Ave.
  3. Intersection of Reina Del Mar and Reichling Ave.
  4. Intersection of Alicante Dr and Terra Nova Blvd.
  5. Intersection of Alicante Dr and Banyan Way.
  6. Intersection of Aspen Dr and Terra Nova Blvd.
  7. Crosswalk on Terra Nova Blvd in front of Terra Nova High School.

Funding for the project is being provided by the City/County Association of Governments (C/CAG) of San Mateo County through Measure M, approved by San Mateo County voters in 2010, and by the San Mateo County Office of Education Safe Routes to School grant program.
