Beginning in October 2011 the City of Pacifica contracted with the City of South San Francisco to provide police communication services for the Pacifica Police Department. The Pacifica Police Department receives approximately 20,000 incoming calls for assistance each year, including all 9-1-1 calls. Police resources are dispatched through the South San Francisco Police Department Communications Center on a 24-hour basis. The South San Francisco Communications Center also provides 9-1-1 initial telephone contact for fire and medical calls.

The South San Francisco Communications Center provides 24-hour answering of all emergency and non-emergency police, fire, and medical calls (including 911 and non-emergency telephone service for the hearing and speech impaired). There is a direct link to the AT&T Language Line. As a state funded 911 program, AT&T Language Line provides the Communications Center with emergency translation for public safety in more than 140 languages and dialects. The Communications Center uses state-of-the-art technology to provide fast and effective emergency communication services. Using sophisticated radio communication, mobile computers and a Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System, the Communications Center is able to process requests and expedite the dispatch of police and fire personnel in an emergency.

The South San Francisco Communications Center will also receive after-hour and weekend telephone calls related to Public Works and North Coast County Water District requests for service. The South San Francisco Communications Center maintains on-call lists for Pacifica Department of Public Works and the North Coast County Water District and will forward calls for service to those departments.
