The primary responsibilities of the fleet maintenance division are the maintenance and repair of over 120 motorized and non-motorized items of equipment, the installation of special equipment unique to each department, and the design and building of special equipment used by city departments. The division oversees the annual evaluation of equipment for replacement, preparation of specifications necessary for the acquisition of effective and productive equipment, and the disposal of vehicles and equipment to be sold at auctions.

The fleet maintenance division is also responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance and repair of equipment performed within the maintenance facility. It also prepares applications for and payment of all permits necessary to operate the facility. Additionally, the division takes and maintains inventory, as well as monitors and disposes of all hazardous waste generated at the facility.
