Trees are one of Pacifica's most important landscape features. They enrich the community's standard of living with their variety of forms and seasonal color. They provide oxygen and filter out some pollutants from the air. Trees deflect noise and wind, protect soil from erosion, provide habitat for wildlife and reduce rain runoff. For these reasons and many more, the City of Pacifica is dedicated to the protection and maintenance of its unique arboreal landscape, using healthy urban forest practices. Pacifica's forestry program is designed to preserve heritage tree specimens where possible, remove or allow the removal of hazardous trees, and facilitate the planting of new trees. New trees are planted by matching appropriate planting sites with suitable tree species to create an urban forest that is healthy and safe.
