City of Pacifica work crews perform maintenance on trees located in a four foot wide planting strip along most streets in town. This work may include removing or pruning hazardous limbs, removing dead or broken limbs, removing lower foliage for street and sidewalk clearance or complete removal of a tree. Tree work is prioritized based on the level of threat the tree presents to property or public safety.

For a tree to be included in Pacifica’s tree maintenance program, it must be located on city property or on property where the city has an easement or other property interest. The tree may also be located in the four foot wide planting strip. The location of the planting strip in relation to the road varies on sidewalk configuration or whether sidewalks exist at all. Chapter 14 of Title 4 of the Pacifica Municipal Code describes the criteria a tree must meet to be included in the tree maintenance program.
